Default I have come to a crossroads....sigh

When I bought my 850, I had given up on my 72 Celica.

Now, I have the chance to pick up a nearly mint condition 76 Celica five speed liftback for a very good price.

But I have to give up one of my cars.

I love both the wagon and the SC300.

I have put countless hours of work into the SC, but it still needs some things that I don't feel like fixing. Its not big, but if ever wanted to sell it in the future after doing more work to it, I would lose my shirt on the car.

Things like a passenger fender, hood, and front bumper cover. The A/C does not work and it needs a new TPS sensor.

It also needs new alignment cams (bushings). The rear ones are in the sub-frame and would be a HUGE PITA to do.

My good friend has pointed out that I know how reliable this SC is. He's right to a point. Also making claims that I don't know how reliable that Celica will be.

But, any car I have ever purchased I never new before owning it how good a car it would be.

I haven't felt this torn up about something like this in a long time.

I don't want to make a poor choice and regret it later.

I think the only thing holding me to the SC besides the work put into it is the Lexus name.

My biggest concern is gas mileage. That Celica can get well over 35MPG. The SC gets about 18-21 combined, but can get about 27 on long highway trips. It has a 20 gallon tank and requires premium. So, WHEN gas goes back up, I'd basically have to park the car.

Any opinions on this?

From a logical standpoint, I'd say get rid of the SC300 and buy the Celica. I personally prefer Toyota over Lexus anyway. Either way, I'd definately keep the 850 wagon. Besides, when gas does get back up for summer...would you rather be able to drive a fun car or be forced to park a car?

But that's the opinion of a teenager.

I know.

It does make sense.

Right now though, I haven't had one call on the car.

I had one guy text me and ask if I would sell the front lip from the car, and that I would get more for the car without the lip.

Its extremely disheartening because I don't know what to do.

I'd get the Celica as well. The rareness of it would also be a fun factor. I know how tough it is to get rid of a car after putting blood, sweat and money in it. To be honest with you, cars simply come to their end with us at some point. Don't do like some people do, go store it at some storage place for 10 years because you lost a puppy in it once or something like that. It's just a waste of money. I have actually given away good running cars because I probably could not bare the pain of someone buying it for next to nothing while I'm trying to get top dollar for it.

I think the best way to access the price is to look at blue book at www.nadaguides.com then back out the retail cost of needed repairs. That will probably be your best asking price. Other than that, if you REALLY DON'T NEED THE MONEY, find someone to give it to, kinda make it fun. This is what I have done:
* Volvo 262C - $137.52 (to some stranger)
* Volvo 740 GLE - $7.58 (to a single mom)
* Volvo 960 - $1 (to my cousin)
Hope this helps.

Or, you could perhaps yank out the Lexus badge from the SC and install it on the Celica and vise-versa (Toyota SC300, or Soarer as named in its homeland). Hey, Lexus is just a fancier name for Toyota anyway...

BTW, the Japanese giant is sinking lately....
