RE: I am BACK
Glad to have you back tech!
I have a toothache too every so often because I never had my wisdom teeth pulled. They say it's much more painful to do the older you get, but I keep putting it off because the pain only lasts a week or so then it subsides. By the time I get around to making an appointment the pain is gone, so I don't bother going to the dentist. Someday I'll have to deal it with and then I'll be sorry.

Gentlemen, now is the time that you get serious about maintenance on your teeth.
I would do the following:
1. Reduce sugar intake. Substitute with 100% fruit juice & snack-size veggie. No more additives (Coke, chocolate, chips, munchies). Ice-cream does not exist in this world[8D]. Forget Dunkin' Donut, McDonald's,or that kind of cr@p(suggested film; Super size Me). Sorry ifanyone hereworks for one of those companies, no offense/suing. I actually do buy orange juice & unsweetened iced tea at Mac once/twice a year.
2. Brush your teeth after every meal. Buy a travel-pack teeth-cleaning kit at a local store and have it with you at all times. Be sure to put "Teeth for Life" logo on the pack as a self-reminder.
3. Consider taking a dentistry course or two at a local college and learn the basics. Self-teaching is also effective; look for a book that's titled something like:"How to Maintain Your Teeth Properly and Don't Get Taken at a Dentist" or "What Your Dentist Don't Want You to Know", etc...
4. Consult your wife if you're married; women are a lot more health-conscious than men in general[8D]. If you're not married, consult your mom/grandma, friend, etc who are in shape.
5. If nothing else works, give up some $ and visit a local dealer, I mean, a dentist. Get a written estimate before they start taking your teeth apart. Insist on OEM-everything.
Man, mysense of humorcan't be any more lame than this....

OK, but yhou whill bhe tahlkhing likhe theesch witsch shome teesch missching....
On the bright side, you will be able to pronounce German/Dutch a lot better than most of us[8D].
But please note, that almost everyone I met who were missing their teeth sad; "I weesch I wasched mai teesch mhore ohften Cod tamn heet!"
But are you sure, that you can give up the joy of eating steak, BBQ ribs, sandwich, burgers, and pizza? I myself cannot bear the misery of drinking "Vitamin-Rite", "Breakfast-on-the-Run" or whatever those nutrient drinks, while everyone is saying, at a barbecue,"This burger is great!" "Who brought this juicy steak?" "Let me have another rib, that big piece right there"....no, it will not happen to me!!!
Anyway, I'd better get off my soap box. "Teeth for Life".

RE: I am BACK
OK let me chime in here. First of all I have had bad teeth all my life, even as a child I had caveties all the time because of soft teeth. My nephew who is six years younger than me never had a cavity and had strong teeth. I went to the Dentist all the time and took reasonably good care of my teeth. Today at 58 years old for me and 52 to for him he has false teeth and I still have my teeth. I do have ten crowns though because they just couldn't fill the teeth any more when when I was still in my 20's. Today I brush my teeth once a day and floss after brushing. Not that big a deal, and I haven't had a cavity in over 10 years. Did have to have that deep cleaning where they go in under the gums a few years back though. Now I make sure I go to the Dentist every six months for a professional cleaning, and it's covered by insurance. I think what JPN wrote is going a little over board, but you do need to take care of your teeth if you plan to keep them, and I'm doing what I can to keep mine.
