Default Key fob battery dies and leaves you stranded

A quick note that may help someone with a newer model car that uses a keyless start.
Everything is electronic these days and you can do a lot with the Volvo app. What the app is missing is a battery power level indicator for the key fob. If the key fob battery dies there is no way to start your car. We live outside Philly and my wife was in MD visiting her sister. Of course the key fob died when she was 2 hours away from the spare key fob, back at the house. Fortunately her sister was able to drive her to a local electronics store to get a replacement 3V CR2032 battery and they were able to replace the battery and start the car. The car is about 3 years old and the batteries in both the key fobs needed replacing. So now she keeps a spare battery in her glove compartment just in case.

My car gave me a warning on the dash before the batteries went dead giving me time to find replacements

That would have been very useful. What is your car model? Neither my 2018 XC60 or my wife's 2019 XC40 came up with a warning.

It doesn't strand the car. You can open the door with the key blade in the remote and it will start by putting the key next to the antenna in the cup holder. See your owner's manual.

I figured that there had to be something like that. My daughter's Prius has a dash slot for the fob when the battery dies.
