Mazda help again
Hi all,
I've been away for a bit (got caught up with some high-profile, high-stress work for a little bit). Now things have calmed back down and I have a friend asking me for help on his 2004 Mazda3. He took it to a shop who told him he needed a new Leak Detection Pump - with a quote of $610 for parts and labor. I called a dealer to get the part number and price.
It's p/n is: LF6713970C with a price tag of $224.42.
The odd thing is that I can't find anything with that part number in any of my usual parts supplier websites or even searching in Google.
Does anyone know of anywhere to find the part? And if so, does anyone have any idea how hard it would be to replace?
Thanks!

RE: Mazda help again
I did a little searching and found a few online Mazda dealers sell them cheaper. Here's one for instance:
http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...;siteid=214237
I wonder if this is the same part mentioned on some of the Mazda forums. Does your friend have problems restarting after fill-ups?
On Mazda3, the following conditions have been found:
o STUCK OPEN PURGE SOLENOID VALVE - Confirm by removing purge
solenoid control valve hose at the intake manifold, then inspect
to see if smoke exits from the hose. If smoke is seen, this
indicates a valve that is stuck open.
Note: If hose is not removed, smoke may not be seen anywhere, and
it will appear the vehicle has no leak.
o MISSING "BASKET" SEAL - A smoke test will reveal if a basket seal is missing from a quick disconnect fitting.
Hopefully some of that information is helpful.

RE: Mazda help again
Cool, thanks a lot for searching. I've never had so much trouble finding a part, especially after getting the p/n. I wish I could find out some better information about where it is and how hard it would be to replace, but I'd have to have him $600 for a repair when the parts only $150.
Anyway, he says the car is generally running fine.

RE: Mazda help again
Damn, I was in the same situation and was away from the forum for 10 days or so, and I'm now late for all parties.
Mazda's marketing dept seems to have given up using their brains lately; Mazda 3, Mazda 6, Mazda 9, etc... I first thought they referred to the number of cylinders but then 3 cylinders are only put in their home-market tiny vehicles and haven't heard of 9 cylinders.
On the other hand, some mfgs go to the absolute opposite. I believe Suzuki once came out with something like Grande Vi@gra or some sort like that[&:]. I first thought it was a collaboration between Starbucks Coffee and some Pharmacology company, but then.....

RE: Mazda help again
You need a scan tool, a dvom and a troubleshooting flowchart....there's too many steps to list them all here.
Maybe this can help you..http://www.asashop.org/autoinc/march2005/techtips.htm
