I was planning on installing a Flowmaster 50 series on my pickup, so I removed the pipe before the muffler just to hear how it sounds. Now the exhaust is coming out of the y-pipe that has 2 cats on it. I like it so much I'm not going to buy the 50 series now. Cost: $0. Pretty good sound for a 281 cubic inch 4.6 liter IMO. What ya think?

For some reason I can not hear sound on this machine so I'll have to switch computers to check it out.

However, I will say this... Due to the current economy conditions, with states, counties, and cities operating in the RED. They have decided to use some of the stimulus money to make up for it. A nice chunk of stimulus money has been spent on putting more cops on the streets. Police, troopers, etc. Since normal revenue is down, our servants in patrol cars have been directed to crack down on EVERY street/highway violation that they can. From speeding, to tint, to illegal mods. I have gotten pulled over and have been handed more tickets in the past 9 months than I have in the previous 30 years. Word to the wise, and I know you are... Get a muffler. My neighbor was pulled over on the interstate 3 days ago for a loud exhaust. All in the name of getting revenue to offset the economy, like we (you and I) have money for that bull crap.

BTW, cool to see that you have a '88 760 GLE. I had a '87 740 GLE with over 400k on it before I gave it to a single mom.

I hear ya and I agree. And actually I will probably go ahead and install a 50 series (just because I do like them) someday if I happen to have that money to spend. Honestly I'm not too worried about being pulled over for that around here. My friend has a 350Z that has 5% tint all the way around. He has been pulled over 3 times for speeding and not one of the cops said anything to him about it. Oh yeah, he's also running no mufflers. Another buddy of mine has a K5 Blazer with open headers. Been that way for 2 years and never a word said. Cops are very lax here on that stuff. Tulsa (and the town I live in) have laid off hundreds of officers. So at this point in time there is a lower number of officers than there has been in a while. Not necessarily a good thing though..

My pickup has 5% tint front and 2.5% in rear also. Hehehe.

And thanks. My 760 is actually not running right now but only because I need to change out the seal behind the distributor rotor. It was letting too much oil in the cap. Needs a new water pump too. Hopefully it will be running soon.

Cool about the police in your area. They must have missed the hand outs somehow.

Let me know if you need 760 parts. The Volvo grave yard I go to has several of them.

Luckly the law states how many DBs is acceptable.
Just test and make sure it is not louder that the number the law states and you will be good.

I think CA is 95dbs for a passanger car under 6000lbs.

I couldn't believe it but it has helped my gas mileage way more than expected. I just put 190 miles on half a tank. Before, the best I got was 160. Just filled up and it only cost $39. That's what I'm talking about.

i was just thinkin the noise on the highway would give me a headache, but sounds like you already tried that out - would there be any concern about the exhaust back pressure? maybe with the increased mpg, trade off tow/haul capacity?

It's actually barely noticable at cruise speed. The radio easily drowns it out with the windows up. And I'm sure back pressure is fine being as there's still 2 cats on each side of the y-pipe.
