Smile Volvo in the Jan 30 SNOW (sunny south? HA!)

We got (for us) here in Winston-Salem NC a whopper of a snow Friday night and Sat - about 9-10+ inches. Most winter precips here are a few freezing rains or sleet storms. THIS, i think, was more like the Swedes get day after day in the winter.
My wife works in the big medical ICU of our big regional hospital, so the only excuse to miss a Sat snow day is a coroner's excuse. Guess who gets to take her to work at 6:00 am!
Even though my wife has an XC70, for winter weather we use the ol' 94 850 Turbo cause it is (1) older, and (2) already shows 2-3 accident claims in its history. Of course the 960 isnt a choice since its RWD.
I finally did everything right this time. The one way out of our neighborhood has a left turn uphill that keeps even some 4x4 owners at home. Putting the 850 in 'winter' and 'low' did the trick! D or 3 (steep downhills) and 'winter' worked perfectly the rest of the way!
BTW, while waiting on the cafeteria to open at the hospital (breakfast), the only vehicles i saw pulling thru over and over were big ol' 4x4s. The drivers kept looking at me like "how'd YOU get here???"!
I know for you guys up north, this is no big deal - but for US it is!

Default Rough winter in NC

been a tough 6-8 weeks here in middle NC. Had well below avg. (near record, twice) temps for long stretches. If we had two ices by now it would be unusual, but we had honest-to-god powdery snow TWICE already.
guess i ignored nature's warnings, like the unbelievable number of gumballs off the neighbor's tree in my yard this year.
would love the warmth of FL but the heat and humidity of the coast in the summer was too much for me when i lived in coast NC in the 70s!
