Default VolvoForums.com are Great!

[soapbox]

Our new computer system here at work is ridiculously slow. We've actually used stopwatches to time how much we wait while saving, printing, uploading to the DB, etc. and most of us have a solid 15 minutes + each day. While it may not sound like a lot, that's 15 minutes when I can't do a single work related thing because the system is tied up doing something else... Multiply that by 15 employees, 5 days a week, and that's a lot of time/money wasted by the company. What's this got to do with VolvoForums?

The time when I can't do anything in the system gives me time to occupy myself with the internet. The most fun for me is browsing and reading on Forums. I'm a member on several, and VolvoForums is among my favorites. Everyone here is genuine and mature, and you can have good normal conversations among all of the technical help.

I'm also a relatively new member on a somewhat local Colorado car enthusiast forum... It seems to be filled with a bunch of juvenile, irritating, people. [8D]I posted a topic today after reading an article on Autoblog, which itself was posted just today. Sure, there might have been snippets and sneak peaks last month, but today was the "official announcement" and after seeing no prior discussions by doing a forum search, I thought it was safe.

Instead of spirited discussion, the first post I get is "WTLM n00b." It seems they are just out to "n00b" people to death. I understand if I was the 42nd repost, but as far as search was concerned, it was a completely new topic.

It really reinforces and makes me appreciate the level of maturity found here.

You guys and gals are awesome!
[/soapbox]

Sorry, it's a really really slow day today, and I find juvenile internet bullies to be extremely irritating. [8D]

Hi TJay,

Many people here are indeed mature and helpful, and I believethat many of usare influenced by Tech. If this forum was not mature or helpful, I probably wouldn't have become a member, let alone a moderator.

When I was asked to become a moderator, I told the admin that I wanted the forum to be helpful, courteous and enjoyable, especially for those who're just starting to learn their cars/automotive maintenance. Too many people seem to forget that they too, were once newbies and I know that those with macho attitude are the ones who don't know as much as they think they know. This is universal and seen everywhere. I too am still in the learning process and other members correct/help me without jeering attitude. It if were for other forums, I probably would have been eaten[8D].

Well, as I just woke up and it is still 5:45am, so I'll go back to get some more sleep before I enjoy my day off and work on the little cars I've been assembling.

See you around,

JPN

Ditto - I've mentioned a number of times how much I appreciate this site and its members. I won't belabor the point, but I couldn't agree with this more:

I have learned so much from this board that I now can answer some technical questions because of what I have read. I am not a mechanic by any means, but I can turn a wrench, so I will read here and other places how to do something on my car and just do it. The main thing I like about this board is that I trust tech's answers, and other boards have people telling you how do to things, but you don't know whether to believe them or not. I also really like the fact that even though we do have conversations and are getting to know each other, we pretty much stick to the topic and not get way off topic constantly. I have trouble weeding through all the smack talk on volvospeed.
