Default cylinder head cracked on volvo penta 4.3L gl-d vortec

i have 2 cracked cylinder heads on my 2005 4.3L GL-D vortec. my question is do you have to buy the manufacturer cylinder head which is lik 1,700/head or can i get any cylinder head that is for a 2005 4.3l gmc engine? what exactly is the difference in the 2? because if i have to get the $1700 one i will not be able to repair the boat.

Not too many boat guys on this forum :-( but from the description of th engine, it looks like you have a 4.3L GM engine which should be easy enough to find rebuilt heads. I'm not sure what would be the difference in the head for a marine application vs a car/truck and this web site says the same

As to parts, here's a shop that caters to selling rebuilt heads

https://bpi.ebasicpower.com/shop/ind...h=19_37_232_38

If you decide to source from an automotive yard and go used, try car-part.com. You should be able to google around for GM cars/trucks with the 4.3L Vortec. Start with the Wiki https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genera...2%B0_V6_engine
