Default Possessed Starter AQ225D

Boat's been laid up two years.

Clean engine compartment, check connections. Follow Volvo "Launch" procedure from operator’s manual, yada, yada.

Put in new battery, move battery switch selector to "Battery 1" and shazaam, starter engages.

A most startling experience I assure you.

No key in ignition. Checked connections at solenoid (all tight no inadvertent contact between posts.)

Tried disconnecting ignition wires at both ignition switches, same result.

Spooky.

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Default RE: Possessed Starter AQ225D

Guess I stumped the state.

Turn on bilge pump, starter whirls.

Turn on nav lights, starter whirls.

Found problem.

Rats nest.

Sucker chewed insulation off several hot wires.
