Default Volvo Penta 5.0 Exhaust

I recently picked up a 2008 chaparral 215ssi with a 5.0 volvo penta in it. After a couple of hours I noticed a noise coming from the exhaust. After investigation I found that the baffle at the end of the y-pipe had come loose and was banging around. I have sense takes the baffle out, and just make sure the engine is on all the time to keep water from coming back up into the exhaust, I am wondering my options to fix this, or if it needs to be fixed. I know the proper fix is to take the boat out of the water, and take it and have the baffle welded back onto the pipe, I was wondering if anyone has had success using an epoxy like JB weld, to secure the baffle back in, the other idea I was toying with was moving the baffle to the riser elbow, which is only a couple inches higher, but removable so welding would be easier. Last thought was to just not run with it, seems like some people say you need it, others say you don't.

Any suggestions would be great!!

Thanks Joe
