So it looks like the transmission has failed me in my 98R at 180k. The car starts and runs fine until it is put into drive, then the RPM's drop and it feels as it is going to stall. 1st gear is very rough, and once it shifts to 2nd all kinds of grinding noises and whatnot.

I removed the prop shaft and did a quick FWD conversion hoping it was the AWD, but the problem still persisted.

My brother-in-law mechanic stopped over today and we jacked the front up and started the car. When we put it into drive and gave it a little gas the passenger side wheel was not turning with the drivers side. It was going much slower and the noises seems to be in sync with jerkiness of the passenger wheel.

The car has 180k on it and needs a few minor maint items like ball joint and end links. Engine has always run strong and the AWD system seems to be in great working order. The body has a few spots of rust just beginning, but nothing major.

1. How much is the car worth AS IS? (would there be interest in the car here, or anywhere for that matter)

2. Where can I find a used tranny? (my bro said he may be able to get me a good deal on the swap if I source a used tranny)

3. Should I part the car out? (I really don't want to, but how much money is there on this 98R to be made?

I'm really at a loss here. I miss the car already. We already bought a new family car, so even if this take a little bit of time, that may not be a problem.
