Looks like I am going to throw in the towel on this one. I really like the car, but it seems it is absolutely impossible to find a good transmission for it around here. I already spent the money on a replacement that didn't work.... so I give up. I would like to trade it for ANY running stick shift Volvo that is in decent shape. It doesn't matter what it is, as long as it runs and drives. I may even be able to throw some cash in but I can't be certain.

1990 740 GLE 16 Valve
160,800 miles, RUST FREE, lived in Arizona until late 2004.
Auto tranny (Dead... AW72L)
Fully loaded as far as I know except power driver's seat. AC doesn't work, I think it just needs charged.
Car was ordered via the Volvo Tourist program and did tour Europe for about 6 months before coming back to the US.
I have a TON load of service records for the car. It was very well maintained.

Only cosmetic things with the car is the front passenger turn marker is broke, the rear drivers side was backed into something but shows VERY minimal damage, and the whole car has scratches on it... not sure why. Has good, mismatched tires.

Must be picked up as I have no way to transport it. Unless if course you want to chance driving it, however the transmission might grenade. It shifts in drive, but acts flaky and slips.

 

Anyone interested in this? I really don't want to junk it because I can't find a good transmission.
