pulling the dipstick will vent crankcase pressure. the noise is likely an air leak somewhere that needs to be traced. I'd also test for excessive crankcase pressure (you can try removing the oil fill cap, then put a latex (ie surgeons) glove over the oil filler - if it inflates and stays inflated, you have positive crankcase pressure, which could be caused by a clogged PCV system. (and you'd want to fix that before it starts turning into leaky oil seals)
