Hi, well i think it's just that they are from 2 different points in time (old and new), but i know that volvo's have been famous for safty, it's a shame that it didn't hold up better, and you're right if it was a newer model it should do better..ciao

Renault did an idiot comparison... You cannot compare the technology that was used when creating that Volvo wagon to the crash technology of the Renault. As there are advances in technology builders find ways of keeping the occupants in the vehicle safer. the volvo's technology was for that era's standards and was prob the best for that particular yearand performed well in crash test with vehicles of those yearsnow with more advances in technology & computers giving the fabricators more info on how to handle impacts I'm very sure if they based that test with a Volvo of equal years & weight both vehicles would have fared off similarly in the amount of damages & injuries. The renault auto builder just used that tactic to get the consumer to just see the size of the "Hulking" wagon compared to the lil compact because the consumer isn't aware of technological differences inthe years both vehicles were produced. Thats the my take on that ridiculos comparison. Love my VOLVO S80 who wants a lil boys toycar when you can own a luxury car. Pretty sure in real crashes my Volvo would fare way better side impact or frontal impact as long as it's not some big truck i guess
