Default Nashville Area - 2007 S40 for parts

My daughter ignored her engine light and drove her S40 with no oil, threw a rod. Now we need a new engine and I am not paying for it.
This car has a set of brand new tires. It is in nice shape had a ton of work done last spring, I would love to get something out of it.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!

is it a 2.4i or turbo? you can sell via eBay or Craigslist etc as a parts car or mechanic's special. You can price out a used engine via car-parts.com and talk to a shop for a labor estimate then go to KBB.com to get a market price for the car. Deduct the repair costs and that's how you can set a value for the car.

Thanks! It is a 2.4i, bright red if that matters. The shop where it is wants $4400 to replace the engine. I am trying to decide if I should call a junk yard to buy it or see if I can sell it. It is a nice car if she didn't kill it.
