Default @##&**!! tail lights are inop.

Hello all, I ordered and received a new circuit board for the Volvo 240 Rt Rear tail light as I have no break lights. Now I see I have no break lights at ALL only the third light in the rear window. I have turn signals, and even a new circuit board, so what could be the problem? fuse is good, and the I thought about the stop light switch, but the third light works, so.....
What do you all think the problem could be?
Frustrated in Oregon.

I don't know if this applies to the 240's but on the 940's behind the ashtray there is a bank of relays. The red cylindrical relay tends to be the culprit when the rear brake lights don't work. I know this because I had to replace it once.

Check the light bulbs, had a van in today with brake light issues... $400 advanced diagnostic later and he had put in a single filament bulb in where he needed a double. Fouled the whole lighting system... his brake light switch was bad too but that doesn't seem to be the case with you.

Default cursed tail lights....

Thank you for the reply, I went to a junk yard and grabbed 5 "new" sockets, as I had a strange all white one in one of the places, and it was cracked anyway so a replacement is in order. I have a multi meter and will check at the plugs tomorrow. If I need to, how does one remove the stop light switch on the break pedal?
Thanks, and God bless.

I seriously doubt that all of the sockets went bad. You need to look into the light bulb failure relay that I mentioned. The part # is KH-1362370. It might not be that but usually when someone on this forum has a problem with the brake lights it ends up being either the relay I mentioned or the brake light switch that is located by the brake pedal and is easy to check.

The white socket is for the passenger side. Why it matters lm not sure.

Default cursed tail lights....

Thank you all for the help, I ended up using the owners manual and replacing several of the bulb sockets as I had several wrong ones installed, and one bad bulb. Ops check good.

That makes sense, I knew so many of the sockets could not have gone bad.
