Default ['94 940 Wagon no turbo] Alternator Question

Hi!!

So after much testing and time, it has be suggested that my power issue is the nodes on my alternator leaking. This is all after suspecting I needed a new alternator, buying one, testing my old one, returning it ...

Anyway, the story is irrelevant.

The point is, this is my second alternator, from two separate sources. Both had the major mounting positions the same as the old but both had the rear electrical connections in different places and both, it appears, will not allow me to use the existing aluminum back on the oem one. I was told the back is not something I absolutely need and it severs as a heat sync (which to me seems useful). While the source is reliable, I wanted to check with everyone here. I have never ever been let down on this forum.

Thanks for this and thanks for that!!

J

I'm having a little trouble visualizing this one... Unless some one else chimes in, A picture or two would help me understand what is going on a little better.

where did you get these replacement alternators? the Bosch OE alternators I've used have been exact fits.

anyways, those thin shields are mostly cosmetic.

It looks to be a prefect fit other than the before mentioned back and the electrical connections being in slightly differnt places.
One was purchased at pep boys the second at o'rileys. Neither are Bosche.

If the aluminum piece is mostly cosmetic then I'll give it a shot without. I'll also try and get some pics of the original and post them.
