Default 1978 Volvo fuel pressure spec

Hello fellow Volvo enthusiasts, I am looking to buy a 78 245 in AZ, I'm in CO. Yes it is going to be an adventure. The gentleman is asking a very reasonable price for the car but it is not running. The car is getting spark and has had both fuel pumps replaced but I get the impression that the main pump is not an adequate one. I don't have a way to haul it back to CO so I'm hoping to slap a pump in it, it was a 90mile a day commute driver until the fuel issue, and drive it back to CO. My question is does anyone know what the main pump pressure is for this car? I have a VW Rabbit CIS pump and I'm wondering if this pump would make the Volvo run. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I belive is 42 psi from the pump. 78 had the mechanical fuel injection system. My 80' 242 had and still has fuel problems revolving around the fuel distributor. I would start by pulling the injectors out and cleaning them, when I got my 80' injector #4 was completely clogged and had to clean it to drive. There is also a fuel distributor adjustment screw. It is a 3mm or 4mm Allen head. The kjet system is very sensitive to vacuum leaks, and the fuel distrubutor can be adjusted to accommodate vacuum leaks until the problem is resolved. Good luck with your classic Volvo!

42PSI is LH. the K-Jet CIS stuff is more like 65PSI.

Thanks Pierce, that helps a great deal, and bummer the VW CIS pumps only go up to around 35PSI.

No not sure but the control pressure chart for the VW says the control pressure max out at 35 PSI @104degrees. To me it looks like the Volvo system is a little more stout. Maybe you would know, can you use the brass 1990s MB injectors on the Volvo like you can on the VW?

ah... the control pressure is, afaik, not the same as the fuel pump pressure.

I'm looking at TP30454-1 now, "CI System B19,b21,b23 240 1975-"

ah. line pressure is 65-77 PSI (except turbos are 75-85psi). rest pressure is 22-35psi 82+ turbos are 35-46 psi). control pressure is quite dynamic, depending on altntide and ambient temperatures.

the proper fuel pump is rated at 100 (1975-79) or 120 (1980+ non-turbo) liter/hour at 72PSI.
