Default 1980 Volvo 240 Broken Hatch Latch and Bad Headlights

Hey everyone. Working on a friends 1980 Volvo 240 Wagon. First things first the hatch wont latch when we close it. I have locked and unlocked it and played with the lock just to see if we could troubleshoot it but no luck. Once you take the carpet cover off the back inside door there is a metal wall with openings. I don't see any way of being able to take this frame off of the inside of the hatch door to get the lock out. I have unscrewed the lock but there is no way to pull it out. Any help would be appreciated for we would like to be able to get this fixed and there is no info online that I have been able to find. Lastly, the headlights only work when the brights are turned on. All fuses are good. Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Oh and I almost forgot. For some reason there is no AC compressor belt on the compressor. I believe he has the B-21 engine so the belt set up might be different. His air isn't blowing cold and hasn't worked for a while. I assumed no belt on the compressor might be the issue. I tried to find a location on the compressor to loosen it and put the belt on but I am seeing no where to do that. It's quite different from the newer model 240's. Does it even need a belt on the compressor? Thanks.
