1980 Volvo 245
For a 1980 245 wagon, what safety features would it have?
I found a list from a Volvo UK fan club site, and I have posted what I think would entail to all 240 drivers (http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/volvo_sa...ations.shtml):
# 1974 Petrol tank relocated for enhanced safety
# 1978 Child booster cushion for children
# 1982 Under-run protection
# 1982 Door mirrors of wide-angle type
# 1984 ABS, anti-locking brakes
# 1986 Brake lights at eye level
# 1986 Three-point safety belt in the middle of the rear seat
# 1987 Safety belt pre-tensioner
# 1987 Driver's airbag
# 1990 Integrated booster cushion for children
# 1991 SIPS, side impact collision protection
# 1991 Automatic height adjustment of front safety belts
# 1993 Three-point inertia-reel safety belt in all seats
# 1994 SIPS, side-impact airbags
Is there anything I should know about 1980 240's? I know that they do not have air bags so I am questioning it as a first car. Also that it does not have Anti-Lock brakes, after just going through driving school, I am questioning if this car would be right for a new driver. Lastly, when did Power steering become a feature of Volvo's?
The car that I am looking at is priced at $1800, which seems to be a pretty decent price...
Just looking for thoughts over all....
Thanks,
Conrad

You don't need all that stuff. What makes a Volvo safe is its innate indestructibility. My '75 sticks to the basics, make the passenger cabin as strong as possible and throw some seatbelts and headrests in for good measure. I don't have airbags or anti-lock brakes, don't need 'em don't like 'em.
Also all 240s have power steering.
Anyway, 240s are great cars to learn on, rehabilitating this old thing (which was barely running when I got it) has taught me a lot, I knew nothing about engines when I bought this thing.
