1984 240 oil on spark plugs

Of course it could be expensive. If the engine needs piston rings it is customary to disassemble the engine to get to them. Honestly, you just haven't provided enough information. How many miles on the engine. Has it been sitting up for quite some time. Was the engine running ok prior to seeing the oily residue. Have you done a compression check. Are the spark plugs the correct heat range and gap. Do you know the difference between oil deposits and gasoline fouled? Does the car visibly smoke?

Right. the car has 260k miles. i have no clue how the og owner took care of the car as i am the 3rd owner now. the guy i purchased it from said a old man owned it. its oil not carb or deposits. it did not sit or so the sellers say. it does not smoke at all. will not pass smog. thanks for the help and for the replys. my subaru needed a head gasket at 255k miles but there was no rad fluid in the engine so we went foward with the rebuild. that job was just over 1k bucks. that is commen for the flat 4 with high miles so im thinking this is going to be around the same price range

never heard of the oil looking "greenish", usually it'lll look like a chocolate milkshake...
you might just want to start off by changing the oil & filter, and a real good tune up (plugs, cap, rotor, flametrap, air filter, fuel filter) and run some good fuel system cleaner, such as lucas or seafoam. run about a half tank through before checking the condition of the plugs again, and go from there.

if I remember right, the housing sits under the intake, around the #3 & #4 runners... there will be 1 large line running up from the side of the engine, and 1 large line and 1 small line coming off the top. be careful taking this apart,as the plastic usually gets pretty brittle and will not hesitate to break with only slight excessive force... if you have the plastic flame trap in the housing, you can usually get it out by inserting a small screwdriver from the bottom...
hope this helps,
