1984 240 wagon Fuel Pump issues?
Howdy yall. Im new to the volvo forum, but have been a long time volvo owner. Our 84' 240 wagon is sputtering like no other when you push on the accelerator. My wife was driving and said it felt like it was running out of gas and sputtering, she got some gas in, and said it leaked out of the bottom of the car. When i checked it out, i added another gallon of gas from the gas can and poured the whole thing in and nothing spilled. I started it up and it seemed like it was mis-firing on the gas pedal?? I would push down and it would sputter pretty good and die if i wasnt pumping the pedal. Please help if anyone has any ideas, we dont want to loose this lady,(Marge).
Thanks Again.

Check all of your gas lines to make sure you haven't any leaks. I have seen leaks in the banjo fittings that connect the fuel line to the fuel filter due to rust. You will only see those kind of leaks when the fuel pumps are running. Also, check the lines coming right out of the fuel tank. There is a little access door in the trunk that allows you to inspect those lines and service the fuel sending unit and in-tank pump.
Check out this site for a good description of how to test the fuel pumps. I would run the pumps with the engine off and look to where the fuel is leaking.
