Default 1984 at 245 wagon -- Can't get oil pan off

All bolts holding up oil pan are removed, and oil pan is completely loose and moving about, but oil pan is being blocked from coming out. It will not slide out. The front axle prevents it from just falling down. The transmission where it bolts to the engine is in the way or I could slide it out.

How do I get the OIL PAN OUT?

Do I have to jack up the transmission a little bit to make room for it to come out?

New here, please help...

Probably the same as my 740. I had to disconnect the engine mounts and raise the engine until it was just about touching the firewall, then disconnect the steering shaft and a few other things so I could unbolt the front cross-member and let it dangle (with the suspension still attached). It was still a pain to get out, as the pan's internal baffle kept hooking itself on the oil pump pickup. Some say to reach inside, unbolt the pump, and drop it in the pan to get extra clearance, but I didn't bother. I was lucky... I had a hoist, various engine lifting devices, and a shop full of tools at my disposal.

Invest in a Bentley manual $40 will be your best friend but yes you do need to loosen motor mounts and jack up etc. It does not just fall out...it's a decent size job and you really should have a good book like a Bentley to walk you through it. Here follow this link it should walk you through it and give you everything you need even has colored pics! oilpan

You have to disconnect the motor mounts jack the engin until it hits the firwall. Then you have to unbolt the K frame from the body. Two bolts on either side in engine compartment near the strut towers. Then you need to turn the pan 90 degrees to get it out since there is a baffle in the oil pan and the pick up screen is in the way. It is a big job. Took me two days.

Default oilpan

with my 240, (the book lied) i had to jack up motor AND drop the cross member/disconnect several front end compoinents. THE OIL PAN DOES NOT DROP STRAIGHT DOWN. the base of the pump fits into a "slot" in the p[an, the pan must be moved to the side before it will drop.
