Default 1984 volvo 240 wagon

I posted last night but haven't received a response - maybe it was too long. I ramble. So here is the thing - I am looking at a Volvo here in Portland at 3pm. It looks great 225 miles, two owners with the last one having it 15 years. But he said there is oil seepage coming from the front seal. He said it's not a lot and that he's been driving it that way for 10 years. Is it anything I should worry about?

Oil leakage onto the timing belt is not good. It probably needs a new timing belt, belt tensioner, and at least one of the three front oil seals. While you're in there, it's a good chance to replace the water pump if it's old, get a Hepu. Also the four drive belts if they have become oil contaminated. Altogether it's a few hundred dollars. But it's hard to say without looking at it.

Post back.

+1 with everything Blue Goose said, also check rear main seal for leakage. With that many miles on it flame trap will probably need serviced. If the flame trap gets gummed up it causes excessive crank case pressure, and will cause the seals to start leaking.

Default Didn't buy it

Thanks for your replies. I looked at it and what a surprise from the ad. The ad didn't mention rust, but when I called the owner said there was a little. Got there and it seemed like there was a little bit more rust and then even more. There were two gaping holes covered with newspaper; one at the floorboard of the driver's seat and one back in the wheel thingy where you put the spare tire. There was rust everywhere! Plus we turned on the air and it blew hot - he checked it out - it's shot. And the rear wiper was 160.00 and on and on. Sheesh.

Thanks again!
