Default 1985 740 Fog lights will not work :( And I live in the foggiest place on earth!

So I bought this car about three years back. I have been fixing her up one rusty piece at a time. When I bought her the fog light switch was stuck. I eventually found a switch in a junkyard and put it on but still does not work. I checked the bulbs, wiring around the lights but still no go.

Is there a fuse for the fog lights somewhere?

Anyone out there with similar problems who figured it out?

Any help would be great. Thanks.

I believe there is a relay somewhere. That should be your problem.

If you just Google 'Volvo 740 fog light relay' you'll get a ton of info. Don't mean to be flippant but that's the best way to go in this case.

on my 92 740, the fog relay is in the middle row, second from the left, where the middle leftmost one is the fuel pump relay.

I thought maybe the brake light relay had something to do with it and there would be a blown fuse somewhere. Thanks for tip pierce. Hopefully the fog lights work after I put in a new relay.

I don't think there's any such thing as a 'brake light relay' on these cars. the switch on the brake pedal arm goes to the brake lights by way of the bulb-out-sensor..

fuse 4 provides the power to the brake light switch.

I just checked and where there is supposed to be a fog light relay there is nothing. Not even the female part where one would go. You were right it is the second one from the left on the middle row. I am so confused.

I don't have a wiring diagram for a 1985 740, so it could well be different than my 1992 which is effectively a 940.
