Default 1985 Volvo 240DL Stereo Install

So, I bought this 85 240 for 400 dollars yesterday. Car is mostly mint, with some hardcore body holes I need to fill.

While I was waiting for some other parts to arrive, I decided to begin stereo install. I researched several scemantics at various sites (Including this one) until I found what I thought to be correct. What I got was this

Constant 12V+
Green/Red
Switched 12V+
Orange
Ground
Black

left Front (+)
White/Yellow
Left Front (-)
White
Right Front (+)
Gray/Yellow
Right Front (-)
Gray

Left Rear (+)
Yellow/Brown
Left Rear (-)
Brown
Right Rear (+)
Yellow/Black
Right Rear (-)
Black

However, What I have is this

I'm pretty much clueless with this. I used a harness for my 97 Intrepid, if thats what I need to do here, That's cool, but after ordering parts, I'm pretty broke.

Any help appreciated.

haha. Nevermind.

The wiring harness snakes through the dash, and connects underneth the steering wheel. Never seen that before, but then, I've never worked on many old volvo before.

Now I'll just need to run extension wires, or see if futureshop carrys any aftermarket harnesses.

Thanks to anyone who looked.

aftermarket harnesses are the way to go. you take the aftermarket volvo harness, and the harness for your stereo and splice them together, then plug the aftermarket harness in where the Volvo stereo harness was originally plugged in.

I like to solder my splices and wrap them in shrinkwrap tubing, but I've used crimps too, kinda depends on how nerdy I'm feeling.

I've done stereo's before. It was just strange to see 5 wires connect to a harness, then split into 8. I havent worked on many old vehicles before. Very excited.

I appricate the comment though. I'm going to post an introductory thread with a few pictures.

Default stereo harness

Im about to do my 85 240 DL as well, being an 85 car, back then they used to run all the speakers to a common negative or ground, so what you may be looking at is one wire for each speaker + with all the - being common, downside to this is modern stereo's dont like that, they want independent + and - for each speaker, so..........

get out the wire and start pulling, if you want a "modern" stereo then your going to have to pull two wires for each speaker, and since your going to be all up in its guts might as well go ahead and pull cables for a future amp and box LOL, if you have to get that deep into her, Id damn sure go ahead and plan for the future and pull the extra remote turn on wire for your amp, a set of RCA feeds and a heavy power feed to the trunk as well, "just in case"
