Default 1986 240 wont fire up!

I have a 1986 240 dl Volvo manual trans. It would occasionally die. I was always able to restart it after a few long moments of waiting. One day while driving to get pizza the car died and never started again. The symptoms are: all electronics still would work, the car would turn over but never fired up.. I believed that it was the wiring harness because there were many bare and old wires exposed, so I replaced the entire harness. Believing that it was the coil to blame, I used my buddy’s from his 1975 244 volvo. My car still will not fire up (meaning my coil is fine). I am getting enough fuel because I can smell it after pumping the gas. Any suggestions?

Did you check to see if the distributor is delivering power to the plugs?

that I do not know about the differences between the 2 harnesses, but if your not getting any spark there is your problem, sounds like a distributor issue

Default Diagnostic test show that coil is good, no spark after distrbutor

I have a 1986 Volvo 240 that would often stall. Finally it would not start at all. It would turn over fine, but not fire up. I checked the coil using several methods found on chat rooms and all seemed to indicate that the coil was working fine. I even used to coil out of my buddy's car. Still it would not start.

I'm getting no spark at the distributor or at any of the plugs. The distributor seems to be the problem. Is there any way of knowing for sure? I would hate to buy one and then find out that it was not the problem. I can't see any bare/shorting wires at the hall effect sensor either.

Should i replace the distributor?

Make sure the rotor turns while cranking, suggesting the timing belt is good. If so, see the attached ignition trouble shooting diagram.

No! It's the ignition control module. When they die," God himself couldn't start the car.Thats why it's called" Ignition Control- it controls every part of the ignition system.Distributors rarely go bad.Modules!?they die," In the blink of an eye.I own two" 1986 Volvo 240s,am an old fart& seen just about every problem& 100% that is it.
