Default 1987 240 Problems

Did the '87 240's have any problems that I should look out for when buying one?

I think the only "real" problem with the 87 was the engine wire harness degrading.

I have an 86 that is a stone. Other than turn signal problems that remain unsolved.....

Look to bad radiator, alternator, and water pump. Timing belt may be worn. Tune-up needs may exist prior to passing emissions. 4th gear OD relay may go afoul. Motor mounts are by now aged and in need of replacement. The air conditioner is likely going to be fried; they never were any good.

Oh: Look for the heating system blower fan and make sure it runs and runs healthy.
Replacement is so involved and time consuming that to have it done by a retail mechanic would negate the market value of the car. Period!

I'm facing that daunting task on my '89 and I am not looking forward to it.
