Default 1987 740 GLE B230F coil resistor?

1987 740 GLE B230F cranks great but will not start. Currentlyreplacing the coil and there is a part connected to the coil I haven't been able to identify. Would like to know aboutthe small black box, about 1"x1"x1.5", mounted on coil bracket, connectedbyone wire to the coil. Thislittle black box is connected to the + side of the coil on the lead next tothe blue wire and ared and white wire is connected to - side of coil.

Is the little black boxa resistor? Can it be tested? Is a replacement part available? Isit required in order for coil to work and make car start? Thanks very much for any help.

Default RE: 1987 740 GLE B230F coil resistor?

Well, my coil replacement worked and thecar runs great again. I'm still curious about thelittle black boxabout 1"x1"x1.5", connected to the + side of the coil. I can't find that part described inHaynes manual or auto parts stores. If I disconnect it (permanently) from the coil, does anyone know if that wouldcause problems? Thanks very much for any help.
