1987, 740 Turbo, will not start when engine cold
This problem happens only when the engine is cold. The starter will run and run, but no ignition. However,, when I do manage to start it, the car runs smooth and re-ignition is fine. Not long ago I replaced the fuel filter. The car has 125,000 original miles.
What could be the cause?. appreciate advises

Pull the vaccum line off the fuel pressure regulator and see if the hose smells like gas.
If it does the regulator is bad.
If not then either and injector is bad or the check valve in the fuel pump is bad.

No Kurtz, I did not find it yet. I tried to pull the plug on the ditributer and while starting the engine, I checked for sparks coming. I could not see clear sparks (when I touch the chasis). Frankly we don't use this car very much these days (20 year original owner). I was planning to haul it to my Machanic and have him just diagnost it for me, to find the exact cause of the problem, and replace the faulty part by myself.
