1988 240 dl not starting
Hey i'll be posting an intro soon with pics in the new members section but wanted to get this out real quick. i ahve quickly browsed through a few of the other similar threads also before posting thanks.
I bought a 88 240 dl from a friend who is tired of it, it ran for a while then stopped on him. He had some mechanic he knew fix it by putting a new distributor, ignition coil and swapped ignition control module? (passenger side engine bay with a 10 pin connector and a vaccum line).
Im still trying to get the story from his mechanic friend as to what all was going on when he looked at it, to see if theres anything else i can learn on the situation. After the mechanic was done with it he gave it back and my friend drove it for two days and said it drove great! He rarely drove it anymore since he had bought a new 4runner and was gettin ready to sell it to another friend. When it wouldnt start up for him to take it to sell.
He doesnt really care to mess with it anymore and my other friend bought a truck so i got it for cheap and am trying to get this thing going.
It turns over, just wont start.
its got new plugs, good wires, new distributor, and new ignition coil.
there is fuel pressure
when i took the wire from the ign coil off and bumped it im not gettin any spark there ( going into the distributor).
being a 88 240 dl is this a EZ-116k system or "computerized systems" type ignition?
I checked the resistance on the ign coil that is a new autozone unit and it reads 6.5 ohms on primary resistance and 12.4 ohms on secondary resistance. Does this mean its a faulty unit or that something else could be wrong. I have checked all the fuses in the driverside kick panel and the one 30 amp blade fuse in the drivers side wheel well, all are good.
The Haynes manual says primary should be 1.1-1.3 ohms and secondary 9.6-11.6k ohms for a computerized system.
Primary 0.6-1 ohms and secondary 6.5-8.5k ohms for a EZ-116k.
Excuse my ignorance im a backyard mechanic and this is my first volvo.
