1988 240 Fuel ISSUE!!!
The car ran out of fuel now it will turn over but will stall shortly after. I was able to rev it a couple times but it stalls out and hesitates. Is this the fuel filter or something else? Please help.
UPDATE:
The fuel filter has been replaced and the pump seems to be (i can hear it) running fine. the engine still turns over, but the car never starts. one thought is that there is air in the fule line, but i dont see any bleed screws.
so, 2 questions now:
(1) how can i get air out of the fuel line if that is the problem
(2) what other causes might there be for this problem.
you guys have been really helpful. thank you so much!

i was thinking of replacing the fuel filter myself but i've never really worked on a car before. is a fuel filter hard to replace? how do i know if it's the filter or the pump? (thank you in advance for helping, i'm a novice when it comes to cars)
its not hard to replace since i do not own a 240 but i do own a 740, and on my car its on the outside of the car next to the main fuel pump. always remember to depressureize the fuel system by removing the fuel pump relay start the car let it die out then its good.
uhh... that is the secondary pump. the main pump is in the tank.
replacing the fuel filter is not a difficult job. A wrachet with a 10mm, 12mm,18mm sockets and some pb blaster should be enough for the job. Takes about 15 miniutes and if you are skinney enough, you don't have to jack the car up.

To replace the Fuel filter you will need to locate it, on my 940g it was located un the driver side door, on the bottom of the car. make sure you do not break the hoses. this will consist of a 18mm, 12mm and 10mm and a good pair of fairly thin ajustable wrenches. its simple.
