Default 1988 245 wagon MAF and other questions

Hi, recently the car started doing some thing, that after searching this forum, seems common. Basically, running rough, than would only stay running if I pumped the gas pedal. Thought it might be fuel pump, but after reading through here I disconnected the MAF. It will start and idle fine but will start to die if I give it too much gas. So, I'm guessing this means I need a new MAF? I pulled it out and cleaned it with carb cleaner, put it back in and I have the same problem. What can go wrong with a MAF? All the little wires inside are fine. What I'm wondering is if it could be something else? The MAF is pretty expensive.
Also, I've read that it is a good idea to clean the throttle bodies. Can somebody tell me where these are? I know where the intake manifold is, I'm a pretty good mechanic just no real experience with Volvos, mostly motorcycles and older carb'd cars.
I'm also going to clean the flame trap as there was a little oil in the air tube between the MAF and the manifold. Anything I should know about doing that? What should I use to clean it?
Thanks for reading and all help is appreciated.

A used 007 MAF isn't terribly expensive and you should keep a spare anyway.

There's one throttle body (TB). From the MAF is an accordion hose that goes to the TB, which is attached to the intake manifold. If you spray the TB, be careful not to saturate the throttle switch.

Regular carb cleaner works good on the flame trap.

Thanks for the reply. Do I need to take the TB off to clean it? And what's the best way to get to the flame trap?

You don't need to remove the TB, just the accordion hose and spray where the throttle plate closes aganist the bore. I prefer to remove and sit aside the distributor cap to access the flame trap.

The first time I serviced the flame trap I installed the relocation kit from IPD. That moves the flame trap from being buried up to sit above the intake manifold. To get at the flame trap, initially, I pulled the idle air motor. Some people pull the disty cap. Some say they can get at it from the firewall side. I could never manage that.

Anyway, once the flame trap is relocated it can be serviced in 5 min. instead of 30 minutes.

Your '88 has the buried flame trap, no?
