1988 Volvo 240 Ignition Issues
Hi, I own a 1988 Volvo 240 DL, and for the past 8 months, I've had numerous issues mostly in the ignition area.
So recently I've had some issues starting the engine and of course I did the full run down checking as much as I can, but I couldn't find the cause of this problem. The problem I detected was that I was getting very weak spark from the ignition coil directly from the coil when I jumped it to ground. When I checked for spark at the plugs, occasionally I had one bright and hot spark, followed by 2-3 tiny sparks, and then absolutely nothing at all. I assumed it was maybe the ignition coil, but I have already tried 3 of them as well as a friend's. (yes I know its not good to blindly replace parts). I also changed the plugs + gapped them and plug wires because the wires were old and the plugs were mismatched and incorrect. Still nothing. Changed the entire ECU and still nothing. Messed with timing and idle speed and everything and nothing changes. I read that it could possibly be the ignition control module or possibly something that someone called a Voltage Amplifier (haven't heard of it, please enlighten me). Blue wire to the ICM is getting 12V, but had issues checking for ground on the #10 pin ground wire and only got "Open Loop" on the multimeter. I'm a bit stumped, but I'm willing to try any ideas anyone has. I really appreciate the help!
