Smile 1989 240 DL won't shift into 4th gear.

This morning on the highway cruising at 75 mph I noticed my 240 seemed to downshift on its own. There was no noticeable loss of power, just higher RPM's it seemed. I checked the tranny fluid later on at work and the fluid level is good, smells ok, good color. The vehicle has about 200K miles on it. On the way home it will not shift into 4th gear. Could it be something simple like the overdrive solenoid or relay? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Yeah, it's not blown. I can hear the relay clicking when I cycle the O/D switch on the shifter too.

IPD has an OD solenoid bypass kit. With that you will not be able to take it out of OD manually.

Thanks blue goose! I just ordered the bypass kit. Has great reviews on IPD. I was almost gonna order a new solenoid but, I never shut off the overdrive anyway. Might as well install the bypass. Lookin forward to installing the kit and seeing if my troubles go away!

Again, thanks blue goose! FINALLY had a chance to install the bypass kit. And......it worked! It's been so cold up here in Upstate NY. Had a beautiful sunny day today to do it.
