Looking at a 1989 740 GLE with a manual transmission. Current owner says it will shift into the reverse position but does not engage (nothing happens). Any ideas on what it could be or how involved the repair would be?

 

Should most likely look at the linkage to see if anything visible is wrong. Both at the shift lever and the transmission. Did this just happen.
