Unhappy 86' 740 stalling in reverse?

Hey y'all,
I bought a 1986 740 GLE about a week or so ago. It's been running great since then. However, today it stalled on two separate occasions when shifting into reverse. Anyone know what might be causing this?

Thanks!

What's the RPM? If they are too low, say >500 then the extra load of the reverse will make it stall. It's easy to raise the RPM on that car, there should be a plastic **** under the throttle body.

I'm certain the idle motor does not work properly on that car after 30x years. A good first step would be to clean the throttle housing and attempt to set the basic idle and switch. Common carbon buildup in the throttle housing will keep the basic idle speed too low. And yes if there is a black plastic **** - that can be a quick fix.

Took out the throttle body and cleaned it, there was sure a lot of carbon built up in it. I think it definitely helped, haven't stalled out since I did that (*knock on wood*). I appreciate your input!! I also want to note that the RPMs weren't below 500 before I did this; they were about 750ish when I threw it in reverse. After doing the cleaning, they're definitely a bit** higher than they were previously, should I go with turning that plastic **** to raise them? Or is the IAC maybe shot?
