1989 740GL Won't start

It's definitely a tick and not a knock. The warmer the engine the less it's noticeable. The engine sounds better the higher the RPM. The tick basically goes away above 2,200rpm. Really sounds like an injector .

More than likely it is either valve lash or piston slap. You can check the valve lash using a feeler gauge. The lash values should be on a plate on the top of the drivers side wheel well (in the engine compartment).
