Good morning, I may be acquiring a 1989 2.3 16 valve and was wondering if there is any performance kits for these engines to make a little more power. I plan on rebuilding it anyway, so I thought I might as well upgrade it a bit while I'm in there. I know these engine are a little more rare than the original 2.3 but I thought I'd give it a shot. "A little more rare?" They are getting quite rare, can't think last time I saw one. I don't believe there is any popular upgrade, may be a chip? Volvo went the turbo way after they dropped the 16V for various reasons...

 

I was more looking to do more internal upgrades but since you said they very rare, I imagine there's not a lot of options except for a stock rebuild.

 

Was there an option to have a 16 valve with a standard transmission?
