1989 Volvo 240
I just picked up a 1989 Volvo 240 GL. I had a few questions for these cars. Is it normal for when you hit the brake pedal and the headlights will dim for about a second. Also who makes the best plugs for these cars, I'm a ford guy but i couldn't pass up this car for 500. I know motorcraft plugs for some odd reason last forever in the fords. Also It has a oil leak which looks to be in the back of the motor and its getting on the exhaust, I guess it could be a valve cover?
Tonight im going to the local autoparts store and picking up a air filter, plugs, wires, cap, button, oil and oil filter. Anything else i should replace on these fine machines.

About the headlights dimming -- no, not normal. Sounds like bad wiring/connections/ground. It is common for wiring/connections/grounds to deteriorate.
I suggest NGK copper plugs, Bougicord ignition wires, Bosch disty cap & rotor, Volvo or Mann oil & air filters. Don't forget the copper washer for the oil drain plug.
Try not to spill used oil on the right motor mount. Cover it with a shop towel or something. On the other hand, if the clearance between the motor mount and oil filter is down to 1/2", it's probably time to replace the motor mount.
