1990 740 oil for new jersey weather

what oil 1990 740 oil for new jersey weather,all i can find is 5 w 40,is that to thick?

I always use 10w30 (recommended) in CT

Bought my 89 740 new and always used 10W-40 dino oil in upstate NY. Only have 424K miles on the original engine.
