Default 1990 Dl 240 rear wiper motor

1990 DL240 Wagon

My rear window wiper never stops in the same place when turned off at the switch. I watched the motor with the trim panel removed. The intermittent setting, just moves the blade a little bit then stops.

My thinking is the park switch is somehow defective. Before I remove the rear wiper motor, does anyone know if this is repairable or am I looking at buying a new motor?

Thanks in advance.

Hi darkdelta,

My car is the 90 240DL wagon. I have had the front wipers do a similar behaviour, and fixed it by cleaning the contacts on the wiper switch stalk on the steering column. Sprayed electrical contact cleaner (CRM brand) then followed that with DeOxit cleaner/lube. Cleaned all the fuses that way too. Lubed the wiper linkage just in case with Garage Door Lube.

As for the rear wiper/motor/assembly/circuits; could the wiring through the rear hatch hinges be severing? Otherwise, give the stalk contacts attention.

Hope this helps. Best of success.

Sometimes the magnets become dislodged from the housing and slip down onto the armature causing erratic operation. I would pull the wiper motor and have a look at the insides. Worst case you're looking at a new motor. Better yet, one from the junk yard. Usually the rear motor doesn't get used much.

Default Wandering Rear wiper solved!

Hello Fellow Bricksters,

I had noticed the tailgate harness was looking rather worn, so I replaced both sides, and then the rear wiper problem was solved. It wasn't such a bad job.

Maybe this will help someone.
