1990 Volvo 240, Car starts up fine, idles okay, but shortly stalls out after startup.
I've had this issue for a couple weeks now and have tried to do everything to solve it. The car starts up perfectly fine, but in about a minute it stalls out. even revving the engine up to 2-3k rpms doesn't stop it from dying either, engine doesn't sputter or hiccup, just flat out dies. After it dies it does not want to start at all, but if I wait 10-20 minutes it will start up again no problem only to stall out once again after 1 minute. Ive been replaced parts chasing the issue but nothing has really helped it.
List of parts I have replaced in the last 6 months:
Ignition coil
Ignition control module
Ignition control computer
ECU
Spark plugs
Ignition wires
Distributor Cap and rotor
MAF
Fuel pressure regulator
Fuel injectors
Fuel pump relay
Crank position sensor
Fuel pumps
I am so lost at this point I have no idea whats wrong, please any suggestions to help bring my car back on the road would be appreciated, but I will you keep you updated if anything changes.
If equipped - the white 25 amp fuse holder that gets power directly from the positive battery terminal - Those falls apart and get bad connections inside - what does your look like? (that powers the FI system) A 1990 might have an additional fuel system relay as pictured below also.
Use your $5 test light on the coil. One side will be light on all the time. Other side light will flash as the coil fires.
Run engine until it stalls as normal - did the light stop flashing? During the 10 minute period it "won't start" does the light flash when cranking?
Use your $10 noid light on an injector. Does it flash when the car is running? During the "won't start" period does it flash when cranking?
What's the fuel pressure (from the gauge you rented/borrowed from the auto parts store) when the car is running - is there fuel pressure during the "won't start" period when cranking?
Simple tests like these will help pinpoint what system is failing.
