As stated, I have a 1991 240 wagon.

The wipers work well, but when I turn them off, they don't store themselves in the proper position at the bottom of my windshield. Instead, they stop progressively higher and higher, obscuring my vision until I manually push them down to the bottom position. When they are "stuck" in the highest position and I turn the wipers on, I can hear the wiper motor work without the wipers moving until they seem to catch. Same thing happens when I hit the mist function. Rear wiper suddenly stoppped working a little while ago.

Did a quick search and didn't come up with anything. I was wondering before I take the cowling apart and buy a new wiper motor, if anyone has encountered this before? Could it be something else aside from the wiper motor? Like the switch or one of the relays? The motor seems to be working well except for the wipers stopping in odd places. Thanks in advance for any info.

 

The wiper motor is fitted with a self park mechanism which, as far as I can remember, can only be adjusted to make the wipers park on the right or the left for right or left hand drive vehicles.

Two relays are fitted for the wipers. They are under the left side of the dashboard, behind the kick panel. One is for the rear wipers and the other the front. The relay for the front wipers only works on the intermittent wipe. As your problem is with the parking on both normal and intermittent wipe I don't think that will be the solution. It may be that the motor has to be replaced

The rear wiper - have you got 12v going to it? If not check the fuse and the relay.
