Hi Guys, since I first joined this "Super Forum" about a month ago I've been looking for a suitable "First Volvo purchase" and I've just come across what may be an interesting buy. A guy has a 1991 740 turbo Wagon for sale but it comes with a few problems and I'd like your opinions. Outside handle on rear door doesn't work, but inside does. Left rear light, horn, and over-drive button don't work, and the guy says his mechanic thinks they are related. Car runs and shifts nice. Obviously I could make sure these are done before I purchase but if these problems are easy fixers I could use them as a good bargaining tool. Body is very good apart from a little rust around front wheel arches. Car has 219,000 Km which is about average in Canada with long trips between home and work. The handle is usually a broke handle you can usually pick up a used one cheap.

For the rest I would jump in with a test light and see what you can find.

They might be seperate and somewhat easy fixes but would have to do tests to be sure.

 

I'd only worry about the Overdrive. You say it "shifts fine", does this include the overdrive engagement? What RPM are you doing at 60MPH (90)kph? Should be around 3,000rpm if the OD is engaged. The three electric things are not related. But the OD is the most serious one.
