Default 1991 Volvo 240 Brake Lights not working

I've searched the forum but can't seem to find anything definitive...my issue is the brake lights don't work. The high mount third brake light works with no problem, but the brake lights in the taillights do not work.

I have cleaned the contacts on the circuit board. I sourced a replaced for the Bulb Failure but that didn't do the trick. I have another one to try in case the replacement didn't work. I am assuming it's a bad ground or something, but can someone give me an area to look at? Are there common failure points along the way? This is my first Volvo and other than this, it runs like a champ. I'm just trying to figure this out. I have some more probing to do to see if the brake lights are are getting the voltage when the pedal is depressed. I was just hoping for some direction from the experts...thanks in advance and I appreciate any help!

Pin the pedal down, then start testing with a volt meter adn work your way back. If the sockets have power then the bulbs are the issue. If the sockets dont get power mmove back. You can get splices that you can clip in the wires to trace back. I would suspect the relay if you are not getting juice.

Will do - I'm not sure what you mean about Splices though, can you explain?

i would suspect the switch above the brake pedal
if none of the brake lights work
easy to check
power in, power out
i replaced mine recently with a generic one
about $25, and 15 minutes
done

Thank you for the reply, but I mentioned the high mount stop light does work.

I've got a similar issue where only the left rear brake light does not work. I switched the sockets (left/right) and the one that was previously right and now left did not work, and the one that was previously left and now right works. Still tinkering.

Seems that after doing some probing, the lights work....looks like it is some loss connection at the connector to the circuit board on the taillight assembly. Some wire tires will keep it secure - thanks for the suggestions.

Probably means "wire ties".
