1988 Volvo 240 Question
I'm most likely buying a 1988 240 with 125000 miles on it. Its an automatic and from the pictures it seems to have been taken care of. Is there anything in particular that I should look out for when I go to check the car out. Did this year/make/model have any major issues? I would mainly be driving the car about 5 miles a to and from work but would like to take it on occasional road trips no more than 500 miles each way. Would you trust a car of this age with 125000 miles for this? Thanks.

Trust the car? Absolutely! It's the people you should watch out for... Cars always tell you their story truthfully, all you have to do is pay attention to what they tell you... '88 240 has no "issues" of any import... By the way, it's hard to tell how a car has been taken care of from pictures...

sure! just have a qualified volvo mech. check it out, the normal stuff. tires, brakes, cooling system, anything that might leave you stranded. No different than buying a used car with 25k miles. My opinion is that if someone takes care of the outside (washes, waxes the car) and keeps the inside clean, most often they will mechanically maintain the vehicle as well.
