Default 1992 240 Transmission Issue

Hello,
I have a 1992 Volvo 240 Sedan with an automatic transmission. The vehicle has been very reliable and has 183,000 miles on it. I am having problems with my transmission, whereas it goes into gear and moves forward, but it doesn't shift gears and stays in first. Any suggestions on how big of an issue this might be?
Thank you.

Fluid lever full and clean?

I would say most likely the tranny is toast.

Thanks for the response. Fluid is full and clean. I have it changed every 10,000 miles. I have been told it is a kickdown cable issue. Any idea if this could be the problem?
Thanks.

Possible but never seen it lock into 1st gear due to kickdown cable.
