Default 1992 240 wagon

All,

New to this site and new to volvos. with that said I am going to look at a 92 240 wagon that I am thinking of buying. One owner 250000 miles is there anything I should be worried about? Do these cars have any major issues? I know its 24 years old but it seems from what I have read they are a beast! Any info is appreciated! thanks.

They are wonderful. We just sold my wifes 87 245 with probably over 300k a few weeks ago. only thing i can think off is main seals, timing belt, and water pump with that many miles. There is also a fuse holder that is behind the battery that has one fuse that sends power to the fuel pump. I would recommend replaceing that also. It will only cost you $5 and save you a headache. It went out on our wagon not the fuse but the holder and caused our wagon to sit for almost a year while i was trying to figure it out

we sold ours for 1500 and it had almost perfect interior and exterior. so 400 dont sound too bad to me if it runs and drives. If its acting funny in reverse you will have to service the trans or expect to replace it. In my experience dont know why but it always seems that reverse goes first in a tranny just my experience though.

Well I am the proud owner of a 92 240 wagon! It had some personalities but is a really solid car.,timing belt was changed in 11 but it was only driven 2000 miles. They live in the city and just don't need it. All the lights burn/turn signals etc. Speedometer works but the odometer doesn't. It's a cool car!

Congrats on the buy. My odometer didnt work either in my 87. I guess its an easy fix. IPD sells a kit and it only take about a hour to do from what i heard.

Man, as is, that is by far the best car EVER built. I put over 400,000 miles on the red block Volvo that I had a while back. Keep the engine as is. If you want more power, you can add a turbo to it and keep right on rolling.

I hope you enjoy it, fixing the odometers very easy! If you have a torx and if you're good at small appliance repair, you just need to take the speedometer apart and replace a tiny gear.

I originally bought this for a family member that was on hard times but they found a car. I think I am going to keep it and play around with it. It drives great. Small electrical issues and the AC Does not work. Did these have R-12 in them? How hard is it to change them to 134?

I believe it it R-12 and to change it over to 134A you will need to take it to a shop. I think they have to change a few thing in order to do the retrofit

There should be a tag on the core support. I believe it has the B230F???? Not sure im still learning my volvo engines. I think the older one is the B23f which is the block i have but its the B23FT because i have the turbo.

I want to do a AWD v-6 turbo 5 or 6 speed swap. I think that would be awesome if its is possible. I have to do my 350 swap in my 4 runner first before im going to even allow myself to start looking into swap options for the volvo. here is a pic of my engine in the 244 so you can see the tags

Hey quick question. Where are you located and are you looking for any parts. I maybe buying a 84 244 turbo for an extra engine and ttrand and some other parts. If you need anything it would help me to convince my wife that all will be good if it showed up at our house lol
