all 240/740/940 are 'red block' engines, which encompasses everything from the B21A/B/C/D/E/F to the B230F(T) as well as the somewhat rare DOHC B234F used on some 740/940.

since about 1985 the 240's are the B230F engine. 2.3L SOHC straight 6, with LH2.x fuel injection (LH2.4 from 1989 on), although a few late 240's might be LH 3.1.
